If Uptown is the heart of Dallas, then consider McKinney Ave the major artery. It runs from just north of Downtown and Victory Park all the way north of the Knox Henderson neighborhood. Local legendary establishments like Perry’s Steakhouse, Trulucks, Hotel ZaZa, the McKinney Avenue Tavern, Christies, Breadwinners, Quarter Bar (the list goes on) line the street literally from top-to-bottom, and as such it is definitely the hub of Uptown. Every single “charity” pub crawl that goes on (and there seems to be one most weekends in the summer) use this north-south thoroughfare as their route, and in the evenings hundreds of people walk up and down it in search of their next watering hole.
It does tend to be a little more genteel on the southern end with luxury high-rise buildings like Park 17, 1900 McKinney and 1999 McKinney, and seems to get a little rowdier the closer you get to West Village. Or that could just be that this writer normally starts his evenings off on the southern end for dinner, and perhaps himself gets rowdier the closer he gets to West Village. We’ll never know.
Anyhow, if you’re looking to be in the very heart of things, you don’t mind a little noise on the weekends and you love walking to EVERYTHING, then this could be the location for you.
